Rick Wright, keyboardist of Pink Floyd, has died of cancer yesterday (September 15). A spokesman said, "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer."

Rick Wright met Roger Waters and Nick Mason when he was studying at Regent Street Polytechnic College of Architecture. He was a founding member of the Pink Floyd in 1965. He had contributed his writing skill and distinctive keyboard work on number of songs in Pink Floyd's career, such as "Remember A Day", "Paintbox", "Atom Heart Mother", "Echoes", "The Great Gig In The Sky", "Us And Them" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".

He was forced to leave the band during The Wall session due to conflicts and personal problems with fellow bandmate Roger Waters. However, he was hired as session musician during The Wall tour. In 1984, he formed a group called Zee with Dave Harris.

Following Roger Waters' departure from Pink Floyd, he eventually rejoined the band in 1987 to record the album A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. In 2005, the band's set, including Roger Waters, during Live 8 concert was their biggest show.

Rick has released two solo albums Wet Dream (1978) and Broken China (1996).
