World Wide Bape Heads Live Show Hong Kong 2008 took place tonight (April 10) at Star Hall, HITEC. The show started at 19:50 with Teriyaki Boyz with DJ intro. Then the MC's came on stage wearing Bape shark hoodie. DJ Nigo queued in some girl speaking pharses in Cantonese such as "I don't know how to play mahjong". The MC's also talked to the audience in Cantonese during band introduction. Their set ended at around 20:35 with an outro sampling Daft Punk. Of course, Daft Punk samples would return later with Kanye West's set. After a looonnnggg intermission, N.E.R.D.'s band took the stage at around 21:00 to test their instruments. Then N.E.R.D., that is Pharrell and Shay (Chad is on holiday), led the band into their new song "Anti". N.E.R.D.'s set is definitely a highlight of the night as crowd surfing began mid-way through their set. At a point, there were like 20 something, as Pharrell encouraged, girls on stage during "Everyone Nose", their next single. They played 11 songs and ended at 22:00. Then it came another loonnngggeeerrr (30-minute) intermission...
Thunder sound hit the venue and signalled Kanye West's arrival. His set is the longest of the night, spanning about 16 songs. With the lightning, he often immersed into the dark so the audience may not have seen him that much. His set, of course, ended with "Stronger" (yes! Daft Punk samples returned!) and left the stage saying "Hong Kong! Goodnight!"
But that is not the end of the night, yet! At about 23:50, Teriyaki Boyz (MC's & DJ Nigo) and Pharrell Williams were back on stage for an encore. Teriyaki Boyz then introduced Kanye West onto the stage and played with him, while Pharrell standing next to DJ Nigo's desk. "There are three legends on stage," said MC of Teriyaki Boyz, leading to the final song of the night with both Pharrell and Kanye singing and rapping together. They gave the audience a farewell bow after the song. "Your Bape show 08," said Pharrell after the last song, "See you next year!" Before leaving the stage, Nigo gave the audience one final bow to thank for their energy and cheering.
Hopefully there will be a setlist and more photos coming soon... we will wait and see.
