American rapper Jay-Z, following Madonna and U2, signs an approximately US$150m 10-year deal with concert promoter, Live Nation, reported The New York Times. Jay-Z stepped down as Def Jam Records last December and still has one more album to be released via Roc-A-Fella, a label which he co-founded.Jay-Z's deal with Live Nation includes recordings, tours and endorsements and his own label. A venture called Roc Nation will run Jay-Z's music business.
He told the NY Times, "In a way I want to operate like an indie band. Play the music on tour instead of relying on radio. Hopefully we'll get some hits out of there and radio will pick it up, but we won't make it with that in mind."
