The Velvet Underground & Nico Acetate LP on Sale

The Velvet Underground & Nico Acetate LP on Sale

Leslie Cheung over 18 years ago

A copy of acetate vinyl LP of The Velvet Underground & Nico is now auctioning on eBay. The debut recording session of the band back in 1966 was featured on the disc, and some tracks are different from what went on to become the band's 1967 self-titled debut album.

The tracks on the acetate are:
European Sun
Black Angel's Death
All Tomorrow's Parties
I'll Be Your Mirror
Heroin
Femme Fatale
Venus In Furs
I'm Waiting For The Man
Run Run Run

The tracks were recorded in April 1966 at Scepter Studios, New York City. "Heroin", "Venus In Furs" and "I'm Waiting For The Man" were later re-recorded at T.T.G. Studios, Hollywood, California in May 1966, other tracks were mixed and ready for the debut album released on Verve in 1967.

This acetate was bought by Canadian collector Warren Hill at a yard sales in Chelsea, New York for US 75cents (about HKD$5.85). Since the originals were not released commercially and master tapes of this session were lost, it makes this acetate copy so valuable that by the time this news is published on this site, the bidding reached US$128,300.98 (about HKD$1,000,748.00).
