UK director and screenwriter Martin McDonagh has delivered a great script and film with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The film gives you the solitude of a small American town, and how people feel the authority is untrustworthy that creates a stir in this small town. Frances McDormand plays a mean single mom Mildred, who is eagerly waiting for her daughter's murderer to be captured. She plays it perfectly and carries most of the mean and sarcastic dialogues. Sam Rockwell has a great performance playing a redneck police officer, who at first hates Mildred. His character development is one of our favourites in the film. We also love how the film shows a minority can provoke the authority in some dramatic and creative way, and as the film progresses, the brutal quest for truth often takes an unexpected turns. The ending is left ambiguous for the audience to deduce whether the two leading characters would exert justice with their own hands.
