Time to let go! 'T2 Trainspotting' is a natural progression of the 1996 film. 20 years fly by and the same for the characters, the teenage angst has turned into midlife crisis. The confession from Mark (Ewan McGregor) over dinner is a display of what went wrong in life and society. Even Veronika (Anjela Nedyalkova) says that all Mark and Simon (Jonny Lee Miller) talked about is the old times. Does the director try to tell us to move on? Choose future instead of the past?
However, for the characters in it, most of them choose to repeat their own mistakes, and stay addicted. It is only the addictive subject is different (but that be a life-changer for Spud (Ewen Bremner)). While the ending of 'Trainspotting' leaves a glimpse of hope for Mark to have a better future, it is a bit sad to see its continuation would fall into life's frustration - people seldom change and we are still insecure. Luckily, the adventures Mark and Simon go through are so hilarious, offering a good balance of the emotions.
A good reminder of the good old days, and a wake up call to focus on present and future.
