The second installment of the rebooted web slinger’s story continues with Peter Parker growing up and breaking up and getting back together with his girlfriend Gwen Stacy. Throwing in the mix are the villains Electro, Harry Osborn/Green Goblin and a short glimpse of Rhino.
There are quite many characters and plots going on, but the film is heavily focus on the relationship between Peter and Gwen in order to accumulate to the big spoiler near the end of the film. This makes other plotlines and the depth of characters development suffer much - Electro is just a Spidey-fan gone crazy; Rhino is just another criminal given a chance with hi-tech gadgets; even for Harry, the film depends on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy to tell us how close Peter and Harry were, even though Harry was not on screen nor mentioned in the last entry.
The love-centric entry is like a patchwork between TASM1 and the upcoming universe expanding films like The Sinister Six and Vemon. Luckily the visual effects still manage to save lot credits for the film.
