The final chapter of director Fruit Chan's Prostitute Trilogy after Durian Durian (2000) and Hollywood Hong Kong (2001), Three Husbands, as its title suggests, tells the wondrous tale of a woman who lives her life with the three loving husbands while prostituting on a fishing boat for most of her life. Meihuizi Zeng excels in her role as the muted prostitute who can only get her insatiable libido satisfied by endless, sordid battles with men. A political connotation of Hong Kong, Britain and China? Maybe. Chan never fails to disappoint in depicting the humble working class life in Hong Kong. And a Moby's musical number adds to the surreal ambiance of this dreamy and satirical fairy tale.
