Saw V returns this year picking up where the last instalment ended. Little is known about the synopsis, but as we saw in Saw IV, Detective Hoffman is the man who inherited the Jigsaw's name. So the new Saw film should explain why he became the new Jigsaw. In the the press release by Lionsgate, it has only a brief paragraph to describe the film.

In the fifth instalment of the Saw franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy.  But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends.
