TV Tokyo has announced the third installment of its highly anticipated fake documentary series, TXQ FICTION, titled The Magic Girl Yamada. This new series is set to coincide with the “Fear Exhibition”, with broadcasts scheduled for July 14, 21, and 28, 2025, at 24:30 JST on Mondays. Each episode will be available on YouTube and TVer after its TV airing. Fans eager to catch up on the previous installments, Looking For Kikue Ishinaga and Apology To The Iinuma Family, will be able to stream them for free on TVer starting July 11.
True to the nature of a mockumentary, details surrounding The Magic Girl Yamada remain shrouded in mystery. The only confirmed theme is "fear," leaving much to the imagination. The recently unveiled key visual presents a striking juxtaposition: a vibrant, pop-art style magical girl stands in stark contrast to a realistically rendered, fallen man. This visual dichotomy immediately raises questions about the series' narrative direction and its connection to the seemingly disparate elements.
Further adding to the intrigue are other released images, which include seemingly unrelated scenes such as children playing on a beach, a talk show recording in progress, and a photograph of an unidentified woman. The lack of discernible connection between these visuals and the series' title, coupled with the ambiguity surrounding its relationship to the “Fear Exhibition”, contributes to an unsettling and eerie atmosphere, a hallmark of the mockumentary genre. This deliberate obfuscation of plot details is designed to heighten viewer curiosity and immerse them in the unsettling reality that the series aims to create.
