Tales From The Dark 1 is an anthology film featuring 3 segments adapted from Lilian Lee's novels. Edko Films has sent in new stills and a new clip which is taken from the segment directed by Fruit Chan, where a triad boss (Lo Hoi Pang) pays a visit to Canal Road Flyover Minibus Terminus to find an old lady (Siu Yam Yam) in order to perform "villain hitting" on his enemies. Watch the clip below, and if you know about Hong Kong's policital scene, you would find it funny. You can view the stills here in our gallery.
According to the press release, the triad boss is not named in the original novel, and director Fruit Chan has created the name ZY Leung on set. Diretor Fruit Chan says in the press release, "I'm not sure about others, but I am not afraid. Hong Kong and Mainland China are two very different markets, and there is creative freedom here in Hong Kong, so I can shoot whatever I want." He continues, "Tales From The Dark 1 is totally a Hong Kong film for Hong Kong people, so, as a director, I am not going to impose censorship on myself."
Author Lilian Lee also gives support to this decision, saying, "since we are not willing to compromise the censorship in Mainland, we have to give it (Mainland market) up!"
Tales From The Dark 1 will open on July 11, while Tales From The Dark 2 will open on August 8.
