Patrick Swayze died Monday (September 14) after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57. "Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. Swayze died in Los Angeles, Wolf said.

He was suffering from cancer since March 2008. Despite the illness, he kept working and wrote a memoir with his wife and shot the TV drama series The Beast.

Swayze is well known for his role in Dirty Dancing (1987) and playing the late lover of Demi Moore in Ghost (1990).
