Tales Of The Black Freighter is the story-within-story in the Watchmen graphic novel. It has been turned into a 22-minute animated film and will be released on DVD and blu-ray in the US on March 24. Tales Of The Black Freighter is a pirate story and features Gerard Butler on the voice of The Mariner. MTV has posted the trailer online and you can watch it below. This animated film could be cut into the main film when Watchmen is released on DVD and blu-ray later.

The DVD and blu-ray include Under The Hood, a back-story on the character and is based on the memoirs by Hollis Mason, aka Nite Owl I, in the graphic novel. Extras will be Story Within A Story: The Books Of Watchmen featurette, and a First Look At Green Lantern.



The digital video series Watchmen: Motion Comics will also be released on DVD and blu-ray with extended scenes on March 3. Extra feature on DVD will be a sneak peek at DC Universe's animated Wonder Woman feature. Extra features on blu-ray will include that and a scene, where Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II rescuing Rorschach from prison, from Watchmen theatrical film.
