Michael Crichton, the writer of Jurassic Park, Congo, Sphere, has died in Los Angeles on Tuesday (November 4). In a statement issued by his family, he has died after a "courageous and private battle against cancer".

Michael Crichton was a popular novelist and many of his work were adapted to silver screen. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park was the most successful film in 1993. He also created the famous TV drama E.R.

In his family's statement, it says, "Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand."
