Harmony 2010
Plot Synopsis
Jeong-hye is sentenced to serve 10 years in prison after killing her abusive husband. Shortly after she is put in jail, she gives birth to a child who she must give up for adoption after 18 months, in accordance with the law. One day, Jeong-hye hears a visiting choir's performance. Deeply affected by the music, she resolves to organize her own choir in the prison and through it, she is offered the possibility of earning a special day out with her son.
For her child who has never seen the world outside the prison walls, Jeong-hye sets out to persuade the skeptical inmates into joining the choir. Also joining in the harmony are her prison mate Moon-ok, a former music professor on death row, and a night club singer, Hwa-ja; a professional wrestler, Yeon-sil and Yu-mi, a young soprano with a dark past.
Following months of ardent practice, what started as an unlikely hodgepodge of prisoners steadily gains a sense of musical coherence and they manage to put together a successful performance. Jeong-hye gets her outing with her son but the dreaded 18-months deadline approaches and she shares a regretful farewell with her son.
